Tachihi Station, railway station in Tachikawa, Tokyo, Japan
Tachihi Station is an elevated monorail station in the Izumichō district of Tachikawa, Japan, serving the Tama Toshi Monorail Line. It has two facing platforms with glass walls, bright lighting, and clear signage, and carries the station number TT14.
The station opened in November 1998 as part of the Tama Toshi Monorail Line, which was built to better link the western suburbs of Tokyo. The line's station numbers, including TT14 for this stop, were introduced in early 2018.
The name Tachihi comes from the area's long connection to the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force base nearby, whose land was partly used for development. Today, riders passing through the station can see a mix of residential towers and commercial buildings that reflect how the area has grown since the late 1990s.
The station has elevators and ramps, making it easy to reach the platforms regardless of mobility needs. Signage on the platforms clearly shows which direction each train is headed, so orienting yourself before boarding is straightforward.
The Lalaport Tachikawa Tachihi shopping center was built directly beneath the tracks, meaning passengers can step off the train and enter the shops without going outside. This kind of vertical integration between a transit stop and a retail space is unusual even by Japanese urban standards.
