Kawanoe Castle, Wooden castle in Shikokuchuo, Japan
The reconstructed Kawanoe Castle stands on a hilltop with its main keep rising four stories high above stone foundations in Ehime Prefecture.
The original fortress, constructed in 1337 by Dobi Yoshimasa for the Kohno clan, changed ownership multiple times before its demolition in 1611.
The castle grounds host regular exhibitions that present artifacts and documents illustrating the development of regional military architecture through different periods.
Visitors can reach the castle via a 15-minute walk from Kawanoe station on the Yosan Line, with admission fees set at 100 yen.
The castle materials from its 1611 dismantling were transported and integrated into the construction of Matsuyama Castle, connecting both structures.
