The temple complex features multiple structures including the Main Hall, Daishi Hall, Aizen Hall, and Medicine Buddha Hall within its grounds.
Founded in 703 CE by priest Nissho of the Hosso sect, the temple gained prominence when Buddhist monk Kukai established a seven-building compound in 807.
This temple marks the 69th stop on the Shikoku Pilgrimage route of 88 temples associated with Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi.
Visitors can reach the temple by walking 1.6 kilometers from JR Shikoku Yosan Line's Kanonji Station or 200 meters from Kotohiki Park bus stop.
The temple houses several cultural treasures, including silk-painted Mandala diagrams and wooden Buddhist statues designated as Important Cultural Properties.
