Niocho, Historical district in Mitoyo, Japan
The district extends along the coast of the Seto Inland Sea, featuring a marina, citrus orchards, and traditional residential neighborhoods.
In the 1570s, Nio Castle fell during an attack by the Chosokabe clan, leading to the relocation of Kakujoin Temple to the castle ruins.
The Nio Hassaku Doll Festival takes place annually on August 1, where local children display handmade dolls throughout the district.
The district maintains regular community bus services and operates ferry connections from Nio Port to neighboring islands in the Seto Inland Sea.
A traditional bakery, established in 1948, produces regional specialties including fried bread filled with fava bean paste in narrow alley locations.
