Yukawa Dam

Yukawa Dam is a concrete gravity structure that spans the Yu River and stands about 50 meters tall. It holds back water for irrigation supply and flood management across the region.

The dam was completed in 1977 by Kumagai Gumi, a major construction company, as part of Japan's wider infrastructure growth period. It came into being when the country was expanding its water management systems.

The dam supplies water to farmland and rice paddies across the region, making it central to how local agriculture functions. For residents, it represents how engineering supports the rhythm of seasonal planting and harvesting.

The dam area has parking spaces and viewing platforms where visitors can see the structure and the water behind it. Public transport connections reach the site, and visiting is easiest during daylight hours when the surroundings are fully visible.

The structure has specialized flood outlet gates that shift how water flows through the Yu River depending on the season and weather. This means it can prevent flooding during heavy rains while still storing water for drier times of year.
