Mount Arashi, Mountain summit in Midori-ku, Japan.

Mount Arashi is a 406-meter summit in Midori-ku with hiking trails winding through dense forests and offering views of Sagamiko Lake from the top. The mountain terrain includes stream crossings and bamboo groves as you ascend through its wooded slopes.

The name came from the Edo period when local communities noticed frequent storm patterns around its peak, giving the mountain its meaning of 'storm' in Japanese. This naming reflects how early residents understood the mountain's weather conditions.

A small shrine built in the 1950s sits near the peak, serving as a place for spiritual reflection and marked by a traditional stone lantern. This sacred space shows how local visitors connect the mountain to their spiritual practices.

The main trailhead is near Sagamiko Station and follows a route of about 4 kilometers with several elevation changes as you climb. Expect a three-hour round trip, with rest areas positioned near the summit for tired hikers.

The trail crosses several small streams and passes through thick bamboo forests on the way up the mountain. These natural features create a varied forest experience that differs from typical mountain walks in the region.
