Château de Tsukui

Château de Tsukui is a mountain fortress in Sagamihara featuring stone walls and fortified structures positioned strategically on a hilltop. The site commands views over the surrounding valley and waterways of the Kanagawa region.

The fortress emerged during Japan's Warring States period as an important outpost and was abandoned during the early Edo period. The shift from warfare to peace made this mountain stronghold unnecessary.

The name Tsukui comes from a nearby water reservoir that has shaped the local landscape for centuries. Visitors can still see how water played a role in the site's layout and its importance to those who lived here.

The ruins are reachable via marked hiking trails starting near Hashimoto Station, which connects several train lines. Wear good hiking shoes, as the path climbs uphill and the summit terrain is uneven in places.

The grounds have been transformed into Tsukuiko Shiroyama Park, where historical remains sit alongside hiking trails and recreational areas. This blend allows visitors to experience both fortress history and nature in a single visit.
