Mount Takatori, Mountain peak in Aiko County, Japan

Mount Takatori is a peak in the Tanzawa mountain range located in Kanagawa Prefecture, rising to approximately 706 meters. The climb to the summit follows steep boulders and narrow ridges that demand careful footing and attention.

Following the 1940s, the mountain gained recognition as an important geographical reference point in the northern Miura Peninsula area. This status helped establish it as a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers in the region.

The summit holds shrines dedicated to mountain deities, and local stories speak of two spirit figures named Tarobo and Jirobo that inhabit the peak. These beliefs continue to shape how people experience and respect this place.

The hiking route begins at the Minoge bus stop in Hadano, where a coffee shop offers refreshments before setting out. Sturdy footwear is essential since the steep sections and narrow passages demand secure footing throughout the climb.

On clear days, the peak provides views across to Kamakura, Enoshima, the Shonan coast, and Yokohama's harbor far below. Yet subtle sounds from nearby golf courses occasionally drift up, creating an unexpected contrast between mountain solitude and urban proximity.
