Elfin park, Recreational path in Kitahiroshima, Japan.
Elfin Park is a cycling and walking path spanning about 8 kilometers through Kitahiroshima, built on sections of former railroad tracks. The route features gentle grades and accommodates both pedestrians and cyclists.
The park was created in 2000 when abandoned railway infrastructure was repurposed into a dedicated public space. This transformation rescued disused transportation corridors and gave them new purpose.
The path serves as a gathering point where locals organize regular flea markets and community events throughout the year. These gatherings shape how residents use and value the space in their daily lives.
The path is accessible via train from Shin Chitose Airport Station to Kitahiroshima Station on the Rapid Airport line. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes or bring a bicycle depending on whether they plan to walk or cycle.
The path displays changing flowers across seasons, from cherry blossoms in spring to cosmos flowers in autumn. These seasonal transformations make each visit feel different from the last.
