Sanbō-ji

Sanbō-ji is a Buddhist temple in Shakujii-Dai featuring multiple halls arranged around landscaped grounds. The compound includes bonsai trees, carefully placed stones, and thick vegetation that blocks out surrounding urban noise.

The temple was founded in 1394 and has maintained its presence in the area for over six centuries. This long history reflects its role as an enduring Buddhist institution in the region.

The temple serves as a stop along three pilgrimage routes that connect Buddhist sites across the region. For pilgrims, it represents one of many stations on journeys that follow centuries-old spiritual paths.

The temple sits near Shakujii Park and can be reached by following local signage from the former castle site. The location near landmarks makes it easy to find without needing detailed directions.

The grounds feature the Onarimon Gate and a historical site called Hachijuhakkasho osunafumi reijo. Two large ponds on the property add to its appeal and provide quiet spaces for reflection.
