伊川津貝塚, Archaeological site in Tahara, Japan.

The Ikawazu Shell Mound contains multiple layers of shells, pottery fragments, and stone tools from different historical periods of Japanese civilization.

Excavations at the site, which began in 2007, have revealed artifacts from the Jomon period through medieval times, spanning several thousand years of continuous habitation.

The site holds numerous burial facilities and hearth remains that demonstrate the social organization and daily routines of prehistoric Japanese coastal communities.

The archaeological site is managed by the Tahara City Board of Education, which published detailed research reports in 2015 documenting the findings.

Researchers have identified distinct shell formation patterns that provide evidence of early fishing practices and environmental changes along the Japanese coastline.
