Utsumi Bridge, Arch road bridge in Fukuyama, Japan
The Utsumi Bridge spans 832 meters across the sea with a width of 7.5 meters, connecting Numakuma-cho to Tashima Island through two traffic lanes.
Construction firm Chodai designed and completed the Utsumi Bridge, which opened on October 4, 1989, marking a new era of connectivity for the Fukuyama region.
The bridge incorporates local elements with wisteria trellises at the Numakuma entrance and Washington palms on the Utsumi-cho side, reflecting regional traditions.
The structure rises 30 meters above sea level and employs a Nielsen-Lohse girder system to maintain clear views while supporting regular vehicle traffic.
The bridge's suspension wires form diamond-shaped patterns, utilizing an engineering approach that combines structural strength with geometric precision.
