Kitano Bungei-za

The Kitano Bungei-za is a theater building in Minami-Nagano designed with architectural elements that recall the famous Kabuki-za theater in Tokyo's Ginza district. The building houses a performance hall where various stage artists perform, along with an adjacent art gallery displaying sculptures and other artworks.

The theater was founded by Yoshito Kitano and opened in 1994 as a new venue for performing arts in Nagano prefecture. It was deliberately designed with features that blend classical Japanese theatrical tradition with modern infrastructure.

The theater hosts regular performances of traditional Japanese stage arts, drawing audiences who want to experience local performers and classical theatrical traditions. These shows reflect the artistic roots of the region and create a space where these forms continue to thrive.
