Fukiage Park, Public park in Ome City, Japan
Fukiage Park sits in Ome City within a U-shaped valley where over 100,000 iris plants grow in many color varieties. The site also features autumn flowers like Fujibakama and Higanbana that add seasonal interest beyond the iris blooming period.
The park was founded in 1969 on land that includes the Katsunuma Jo Castle Ruins. The design preserved the original Yato valley landscape while incorporating this historical site.
The annual Iris Festival each June draws visitors and locals together to walk among the blooming flowers, browse food stalls, and purchase iris seedlings. This celebration reflects how deeply the flowering season is woven into the community's calendar and daily awareness.
The park sits roughly 15 minutes walking from Higashi-Ome Station and offers wheelchair rentals and restrooms for visitor comfort. The U-shaped valley layout means the grounds involve gentle slopes and require some walking to explore fully.
Visitors can purchase iris seedlings directly during the festival to take home and plant in their own gardens. This exchange has become a long-standing tradition that connects the park to gardening households throughout the region.
