Alps Azumino National Government Park

Alps Azumino National Government Park, National Government Park at Northern Japan Alps base, Nagano, Japan

Alps Azumino National Government Park consists of two distinct zones, Horigane-Hotaka and Omachi-Matsukawa, which feature gardens, forested landscapes, and mountain streams set against the Northern Alps backdrop. The two areas together create a mix of natural woodland and cultivated green spaces within a mountainous setting.

The park opened in July 2004 and developed into an important recreational facility for the region. Its establishment was part of efforts to preserve traditional Japanese agricultural landscapes and the area's cultural history.

The Azumi School within the park serves as an exhibition center where visitors learn about traditional local practices and can participate in activities like preparing soba noodles. The experience offers insight into regional ways of life and the craftsmanship tied to this area.

The park maintains different opening hours depending on the season and provides ample parking for around 1000 vehicles. Many visitors benefit from reduced entrance fees if they check ahead which groups are eligible.

In a pond filled with glacial water from the Northern Alps, visitors can catch and grill rainbow trout during the summer months. This hands-on fishing experience is a rare chance to prepare and enjoy fresh fish firsthand.
