Jōnoyama Kofun, Ancient burial mound in Tainai City, Japan

The elliptical burial mound measures 41 meters east to west, 35 meters north to south, and rises to a height of 5 meters within Niigata Prefecture.

Built in the early 4th century, the kofun contains a wooden boat-shaped coffin measuring 8 meters in length with numerous artifacts from the period.

The excavation revealed jade magatama, a Chinese bronze mirror, iron swords, and the first diamond-patterned quiver discovered north of Shiga Prefecture.

Visitors can reach the site by taking a six-minute taxi ride from Nakajo Station on the JR Uetsu Line or driving three minutes from Nakajo interchange.

The burial mound ranks as the third largest in Niigata Prefecture and represents the northernmost kofun along the Sea of Japan from its period.
