Daizōkyō-ji, Buddhist temple in Fuefuki, Japan

Daizōkyō-ji is a Buddhist temple in Fuefuki featuring traditional Japanese architectural elements, including chamfered pillars and intricate roof designs in its main hall. The structure displays characteristic details of classical Japanese temple construction with carefully crafted decorative elements throughout.

The temple was founded in 718 by monk Ninmon and later received national historic site designation in 2013. This recognition confirms its long and significant role in Japan's religious history.

This temple serves as a place of worship within the Tendai Buddhist tradition and houses a principal statue of Amida Nyorai. Visitors can observe how local devotees interact with the sacred space and its religious significance in their spiritual practices.

The temple can be reached by car in about 40 minutes from Oita Airport or approximately 30 minutes from Usa Station. A vehicle is the most convenient way to visit this location.

The main hall was built in the 12th century and displays the Amida-do architectural style with murals recognized as Important Cultural Properties. These paintings are rare examples of their kind and deserve careful attention during a visit.
