Fuefuki, Agricultural city in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan
Fuefuki is a city in Yamanashi Prefecture that spreads across the central basins and forested hills north of the Fuefuki River. Settlements sit among fruit orchards, hot spring resorts, and footpaths leading through woodland to old shrines.
The city formed in 2004 when several towns and villages from the old Kai Province merged, uniting their administrative structures. More annexations followed later, shaping the present area and expanding the settlement zone.
Isawa Onsen serves as one of the older hot spring districts in this part of Japan, drawing visitors who soak in public baths and traditional inns. Local families have tended the peach orchards for generations, and in spring the blossoms turn the hillsides pink.
Railway connections on the Chūō Main Line and several national routes lead here, providing links to the wider road network. Most hot spring districts sit near the stations, while the fruit orchards spread across the hillsides.
Each year a fireworks display combines drones with pyrotechnics, tracing patterns above the river. The coordinated show commemorates the city founding and blends new technology with traditional festival customs.
