Shakadō Museum of Jōmon Culture

The Shakadō Museum of Jōmon Culture contains over 5,000 artifacts including pottery, stone tools, and clay figurines discovered during excavations near Mount Fuji.

More than 20,000 people participated in archaeological excavations between 1980 and 1981, uncovering 255 pit dwellings and burial sites during the Chuo Expressway construction.

The museum displays detailed reconstructions and artifacts that show how Jomon people lived, including their pottery techniques, burial practices, and daily activities.

Located at the Shakado Parking Area along the Chuo Expressway, the museum operates from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and charges 400 yen for adult admission.

The museum houses 1,116 dogu clay figurines from a single site, representing one of the largest collections of these mysterious Jomon-period artifacts.
