宮城県スポーツセンター, Sports complex in Aoba Ward, Sendai, Japan.
The Miyagi Prefectural Sports Center was a sports facility on the right bank of the Hirose River in Sendai featuring a gymnasium, archery range, and training rooms. The building provided spaces for multiple sports and was recognized for its modern facilities.
The facility opened in August 1964 with a gymnasium seating 4,918 people and underwent expansion in its early years. An archery dojo was added in 1967 to broaden its sports offerings.
The center hosted professional wrestling and sumo tournaments that drew crowds throughout the 1960s and 1980s. These events made it a gathering place where local fans came to watch major sporting competitions.
The building closed in 2006 due to structural deterioration and no longer operates as a sports facility. The site was repurposed for a different development that now occupies the location.
The facility featured separate exercise rooms for men and women with distinct training setups. This division reflected the sporting conventions of the time and was a distinctive feature of the complex.
