Aobayama park, Urban park in Aoba-ku, Japan
Aobayama Park extends from the eastern part of Aobayama mountain to the Hirose River bank, offering walking trails, tennis courts, and expanses of grass and trees. The site provides different zones for recreation and leisure across its grounds.
The park was established in October 1925 when Sendai City acquired a portion of Aobayama mountain from military forces to create public recreation space. This founding represented an important step in the city's park development.
The park grounds contain the ruins of Sendai Castle, which once belonged to the Date clan and remains an important historical landmark. Visitors can observe the remaining stone walls and foundations that speak to the fortress's former importance.
The park is accessible via International Center Station on the Sendai City Subway Tozai Line or through the local bus service network. Multiple entry points and clear signage help visitors navigate the grounds.
The park features the Shōchū monument with a bronze hawk figure that was restored after damage from the 2011 earthquake. The statue stands as a symbol of resilience and local history.
