Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum, Manga and biography museum in Takarazuka, Japan
The Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum is dedicated to displaying the works and life story of the pioneering manga artist in Takarazuka. The building features a glass globe sculpture at its entrance that reflects themes from Tezuka's writing about environmental protection.
The museum opened in 1994 to preserve the legacy of the manga artist who spent formative years in Takarazuka from age 5 to 24. This connection to the city made it the natural location for an institution dedicated to documenting his artistic contributions.
The entrance hall recreates the palace setting from Tezuka's manga 'Princess Knight,' showing how his stories inspired the museum's design. The 40 display cases hold original manuscripts and personal items that show how he worked and thought.
Plan your visit for any day except Wednesday, when the museum is closed to the public. The on-site library provides books in multiple languages, making it possible to explore the artist's works regardless of which language you speak.
The museum houses an animation workshop where visitors can learn basic animation techniques hands-on. The walls display the evolution of animation technology over time, showing the technical advances that enabled Tezuka's creative work.
