Takarazuka Grand Theater, Performance theater in Takarazuka, Japan.
Takarazuka Grand Theater is a performance hall in the city of the same name between Osaka and Kobe and holds 2,550 seats across two levels. The stage features sound equipment that distributes audio throughout the room and ensures good audibility in all areas.
The hall opened in 1924 as the largest performance venue in Asia and could accommodate up to 4,200 visitors. The entire structure was demolished in 1993 and rebuilt with modern construction standards and reduced capacity.
The building houses an all-female company that performs roles across gender lines and has developed its own style of theatrical performance. Visitors watch a form of musical theater where male characters are portrayed by performers in tailored costumes.
The entrance is located at 1-1-57 Sakaemachi and the building is closed on Mondays, otherwise open from 10 AM to 6 PM. Until March 2025 no shows are scheduled due to renovation work, after which regular programming returns.
Inside the building there is a room called Salon de Takarazuka where costumes, props and other items from past shows are displayed. Visitors can try on original stage costumes and take photographs in a recreated set.
