Uji bridge, Ancient road bridge in Uji, Japan.

The wooden bridge spans 155 meters across the Uji River with wide lanes for vehicles and pedestrians, featuring traditional Japanese railings.

Originally constructed in 646 by Buddhist monk Doto, the bridge served as a critical checkpoint during the Jinshin War of 672.

The bridge holds significance in classical Japanese literature, appearing in The Tale of Genji and the ancient poetry collection Kokin Wakashu.

The current structure, rebuilt in March 1996, connects the eastern and western parts of Uji City while providing views of surrounding tea fields.

The bridge maintains historical elements through its handrails, which replicate the exact dimensions of ornamental knobs from a 1636 version.
