Château de Yamana, Medieval castle ruins in Gunma Prefecture, Japan
The castle features stone foundations, defensive walls, and elevated positions across multiple levels on a strategic mountain location in eastern Japan.
Built in 1469 by Iwamatsu Iezumi, the castle withstood attacks from regional powers including Uesugi Kenshin in 1574 and Takeda Katsuyori in 1580.
The site contains two water reservoirs, named Sun and Moon ponds, which served both practical needs and religious ceremonial purposes during medieval times.
The castle grounds include walking paths through seasonal flora, connecting various archaeological remains and offering views of surrounding mountains.
A 500-year-old Zelkova tree stands near the Nitta shrine, marking the spiritual connection between the castle and local religious traditions.
