Heian Museum of Ancient History, History museum in Nakagyō-ku, Japan
The Heian Museum of Ancient History presents collections of artifacts, documents, and reconstructions depicting life during Japan's classical periods in Kyoto.
Established in 1967 as a private institution under the Paleological Association of Japan, the museum operated in a former Bank of Japan building from 1906.
The museum exhibited the Oshimabon manuscript of Tale of Genji and maintained exhibition rooms dedicated to different aspects of Japanese ancient civilization.
Located near Karasuma Oike station on the Kyoto City Subway, the museum employed professional historians and researchers similar to university academic staff.
The central hall displayed a full-size reconstruction of the Kokiden Imperial Apartment from Seiryoden Hall in the Heian Imperial Palace.
