Guhō-ji, Buddhist temple in Mama, Japan
Guhō-ji Temple stands on a hill with traditional wooden architecture, stone lanterns, and gardens displaying seasonal changes throughout the year.
Founded in 737 by Buddhist monk Gyōki, the temple was renamed from Guhō-ji to its current name when Buddhist master Kūkai visited in 822.
The temple preserves the legend of Tekona, a local maiden whose story influenced the development of protective rituals for children and safe childbirth.
Located 15 minutes on foot from JR Ichikawa Station, the temple provides parking facilities and maintains regular religious services throughout the year.
The temple grounds include the Henran-tei tea room, named by Mito Kōmon during his visit in 1695, reflecting the historical tea ceremony traditions.
