Hōōzuka Kofun, Ancient burial mound in Kōnodai, Japan
The Hōōzuka Kofun features a distinct keyhole shape with a circular rear section measuring 99 meters in diameter and a rectangular front portion 80 meters wide.
Built during the 6th century, this burial mound represents the advanced architectural capabilities of ancient Japanese societies in creating monumental structures for elite members.
The tomb contains multiple burial chambers that housed stone and clay sarcophagi, along with iron weapons, jade ornaments, and terracotta figures called haniwa.
Visitors can reach the archaeological site through a short walk from the Akasaka Sōgō Center, which connects to Ogaki Station via the Meihan Kintetsu Bus.
The structure maintains its original geometric terraces and moat system, providing researchers with valuable information about ancient Japanese construction techniques.
