Hōōzuka Kofun

Hōōzuka Kofun is a large burial mound with a keyhole-shaped design located in Kōnodai. The rear section forms a circular mound about 99 meters across, while the front section stretches as a rectangular platform roughly 80 meters wide.

This burial mound was built during the 6th century in Japan. The structure demonstrates the advanced construction skills of ancient Japanese societies that designed such monumental tombs for their leaders.

The tomb contains multiple burial chambers that housed stone and clay sarcophagi, along with iron weapons, jade ornaments, and terracotta figures called haniwa.

The site is accessible on foot from the Akasaka Sōgō Center, which connects to nearby transportation options. Visitors should allow time to walk around the entire structure and explore the grounds properly.

The site preserves its original geometric terraces and moat system in good condition. These remaining features offer researchers rare insight into the construction techniques used during this ancient period.
