Kamei-in, Buddhist temple in Mama, Japan
The temple displays breast-shaped sculptures throughout its grounds, including prayer plaques and ablution pavilions that emphasize its maternal connections.
Founded in 1635 as a retirement facility for the eleventh abbot of Guho-ji temple, Kamei-in received stones from Nikko Tosho-gu during renovations in 1705.
The temple gained recognition for its association with breastfeeding after a woman in 1665 reportedly received help with lactation after praying at the site.
Visitors can reach the temple by taking the Keisei Main Line to Konodai Station and following a short walking path to the temple grounds.
The name Kamei-in derives from the Japanese characters for turtle and well, referencing an incident involving a mysterious turtle appearing at the temple.
