旭川大橋, Steel arch bridge in Asahikawa, Japan
The Asahikawa Ohashi is a steel arch bridge that crosses the Ishikari River with a span of 225 meters (738 feet). Its deck is 18 meters (59 feet) wide and connects both banks of the northern city.
Built in 1932 using steel imported from Germany, this bridge replaced an earlier wooden crossing. It was constructed during a period when the city strengthened its infrastructure for military transport.
The bridge links the city center with residential areas and allows people to cross the Ishikari River as part of their daily routines. It shapes how the city feels divided across the water.
Taking the bus to Tokiwa-koen stop provides the most direct access, followed by a short walk of around 200 meters to reach the bridge. It sits about 1.8 kilometers from JR Asahikawa Station.
Route 40 traffic crosses this bridge while offering clear views of surrounding mountains from the deck. The Otokoyama Sake Museum sits nearby, making it easy to explore after crossing.
