Kamuikotan, Sacred canyon in Asahikawa, Japan.

The Ishikari River flows through green mudstone formations at Kamuikotan, creating a 10-kilometer stretch of distinct geological structures and natural stone arches.

The canyon contains dwelling remains from the Jomon period, which Hokkaido designated as cultural properties, along with preserved structures from the Meiji era.

The name Kamuikotan derives from Ainu language meaning 'God's Village', reflecting the deep spiritual connection of indigenous people to this location.

Visitors can reach the canyon by car within 40 minutes from JR Asahikawa Station, with free parking facilities available at the entrance.

The site features three preserved steam locomotives and a reconstructed station house from the historical railway that once operated through the canyon.
