Meijikan, Western-style museum in Izushi, Japan

The Meijikan building features a giyofu architectural design that combines Western-style elements with traditional Japanese construction techniques throughout its two-story structure.

Built in 1887 as a county office near the Taniyama River, the Meijikan was later dismantled and reconstructed at its current location before opening as a museum in 1984.

The museum exhibits detail the achievements of local figures, including Tokyo University's first president Hiroyuki Kato and the founder of Japan's weather reports, Tsutomu Sakurai.

The museum welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Sunday between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM, with adult admission at 200 yen and student tickets at 120 yen.

A furnished room at the back of the building maintains the exact layout and appearance of the original county office from the Meiji period.
