Konosumiyama Castle

Konosumiyama Castle is a hill fortification built on an isolated peak at about 140 meters, with defensive features including moats, earthen walls, and stone bases. The layout reveals how the defenders used the terrain to strengthen their position.

The fortress was built in 1382 by Yamana Tokiyoshi and served as a key military center for the Yamana clan. It fell in 1569 when forces under Hashiba Hideyoshi conquered it during the wars of unification.

The ruins reflect how medieval warriors organized their strongholds in this region, with the layout showing the practical needs of defense and control. Local recognition of these sites together highlights their connected importance to the area's history.

The walk up is steep and takes about thirty minutes from the closest bus stop. Markers and ropes guide you through the challenging terrain.

The fortress served as a gathering point during the Onin War, where thousands of riders from multiple Yamana territories assembled before moving to their next campaigns. This shows the strategic importance the family placed on the location during that conflict.
