Fumonji, Buddhist temple in Takatsuki, Japan
Fumonji is a Buddhist temple situated on landscaped grounds featuring traditional Japanese architecture with multiple halls and interconnected garden pathways. The property houses several nationally designated important cultural properties, including six Buddhist statues of major historical significance.
The temple was founded approximately 1,300 years ago and developed into a major religious center of the region. Its surviving structures and artworks document different periods of Japanese history.
This temple belongs to the Rinzai school of Buddhism and houses wooden vow tablets that represent centuries of visitor devotion. These objects can be seen throughout the buildings and reflect how people have expressed their spiritual intentions here.
The grounds are easily accessible with ample parking spaces for cars and additional bus parking available. During the peak season in autumn, expect larger visitor crowds and plan extra time for your visit.
The temple hosts an annual Maple Festival from late November through December, where special Buddhist statues are displayed to the public. Visitors can purchase hand-cut paper images with commemorative stamps as keepsakes from their visit.
