本照寺

Honsho-ji is a Buddhist temple in Takatsuki featuring traditional Japanese architecture with a distinctive eastern gate and buildings arranged in a classic layout. The structures stand within walled grounds that create separate spaces for meditation and ceremonial activities.

This site was originally founded in 1427 as Kosho-ji and was renamed Honsho-ji in 1646 during the Edo period. The name change reflected shifts in Buddhist practice and institutional organization that occurred across Japan during this era.

The temple serves as a meeting point for local worshippers who gather here throughout the seasons for prayer and reflection. Visitors can observe the ongoing Buddhist rituals and community activities that happen regularly within its grounds.

The temple is located in Tonda-cho and sits about a ten-minute walk from Hankyu Tonda Station, making it easy to reach by public transit. The surrounding area has good pedestrian access and clear pathways leading to the temple entrance.

An ancient pine tree named Fusue-no-matsu once stood on the grounds for about 700 years before being removed, and today eighty stone column bases mark its former location. This quiet memorial allows visitors to contemplate the passage of time and the temple's relationship with the natural world.
