Tochigi Nakagawa Aquatic Park

Tochigi Nakagawa Aquatic Park sits along the Nakagawa River and holds 300 fish species with around 20,000 individuals in natural-looking habitats. The different exhibition areas recreate various water environments suited to each group of animals.

The park opened in 2001 and was the first aquarium to arrive in Tochigi at that time. This made it a significant place for learning about the local water world.

The park features fish species that live in the Nakagawa River, helping visitors understand the local water environment. By showing these native animals, it connects people to the ecosystems around their region.

Pathways through the space are flat and easy to walk, with clear signs between the different viewing areas. Wear comfortable shoes since you may spend several hours moving around the exhibits.

The Amazon tank is one of the main attractions and holds several large South American fish species in a substantial water space. Visitors can see these unusual animals in a setting that recreates their natural home.
