Nakagawa-machi Batō Hiroshige Museum of Art, Art museum in Nakagawa, Japan.
The Nakagawa-machi Batō Hiroshige Museum of Art is an art museum in Nakagawa that houses an extensive collection of works by the artist Hiroshige. It displays original paintings and woodblock prints from the Utagawa school collection.
The museum opened on November 3, 2000, thanks to the generous donation of the Aoki Collection. This gift made it possible to preserve and display important works of Japanese art history for the public.
The collection shows traditional Japanese painting and printing techniques that preserve the artistic craftsmanship of earlier generations. Visitors can see how much skill and care went into creating these works.
The building is a single-story structure with natural light softly regulated by cedar wood louvers. The interior allows you to view the works in comfortable brightness without direct sunlight causing glare.
Architect Kengo Kuma designed the building using transparent layers that mirror the spatial depth found in Hiroshige's woodblock prints. The building design itself reflects the artistic vision displayed inside.
