Mount Makio, Mountain summit in Izumi, Japan.
Mount Makio is a mountain summit in the Izumi range of Osaka Prefecture, Japan, rising to about 600 meters above sea level. A temple complex sits near the top, reached by several walking paths that cross wooded slopes.
Sefukuji was founded as a stop on one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in western Japan, the 33 Kannon circuit. This long religious tradition shaped how the mountain has been visited and remembered over the centuries.
Sefukuji, the temple near the summit, is the fourth stop on the 33 Kannon Pilgrimage route in western Japan. Visitors today can walk the same path as pilgrims and watch people pray or leave offerings at the temple.
The mountain is reachable by bus from Izumi-Chuo station, and the walk to the top takes about 30 minutes from the bus stop. The paths are clearly marked, so no prior knowledge of the area is needed.
Mount Makio is listed among the 50 notable peaks of Osaka Prefecture, a regional list that highlights mountains often overlooked in favor of better-known destinations. Cherry trees bloom along the paths in spring, and the leaves turn yellow and red in autumn.
