Izumi no Mori, Nature park in Yamato, Japan.
Izumi no Mori is a nature park in Yamato, Japan, built around a network of ponds, wetland gardens, and walking trails, with a rotating water wheel at its center. It also has a nature observation center and two restored traditional houses on its grounds.
The park was created as a nature preserve and incorporates two residential buildings from the mid and late Edo period, which date back several hundred years. They were kept on site to show what everyday domestic architecture looked like in this part of Japan.
The observation decks are a common spot for birdwatching, especially in the early morning when the ponds are at their quietest. The old water wheel near the center of the park draws the eye and gives visitors a natural place to pause and look around.
The paths through the park are flat and easy to follow, making them accessible for people of all ages and abilities. Parking, restrooms, and vending machines for drinks and snacks are available on site.
The wetland gardens are timed to the iris blooming season, which falls between May and June each year and draws photographers from across the region. Outside of that window, the same gardens look entirely different, with green reeds and still water replacing the flowers.
