Mount Eboshi, Mountain summit in Oshika, Japan.
Mount Eboshi is a peak in the Northern Japanese Alps located near Takase Dam, featuring steep mountainsides and rocky outcrops near its summit. The ridge leading to the top is exposed and narrow, offering wide views across the surrounding mountain ranges.
The mountain forms part of the Ura-ginza route, a traditional hiking path that originates from Takase Dam and connects multiple peaks throughout the Alps. This trail has been maintained and followed by hikers and mountain climbers over many generations.
The name Eboshi refers to traditional black headgear worn by Shinto priests, and the mountain's distinctive shape against the sky resembles this ceremonial hat.
The best season for hiking is from July to September when the weather is more stable and snow has completely melted. The ascent from the Eboshi-goya mountain hut to the summit takes around four hours and requires moderate fitness.
The trail is equipped with fixed chains anchored into the rock, which provide security when crossing steep and exposed sections. These chains allow hikers to safely navigate through the most challenging parts of the summit ridge.
