Mt. Notori, Mountain summit in Minami Alps National Park, Japan

Mt. Nōtori rises with two distinct peaks: the southeastern summit reaches about 3,026 meters (9,928 feet) and the northwestern peak reaches about 3,051 meters (10,010 feet). Established trails connect these two ridges, giving climbers two different vantage points from which to experience the mountain.

This peak forms part of the Shiranesanzan group, three summits in the northern Akaishi Mountains that have shaped the landscape for millions of years. The geological formation developed through extended processes of uplift and erosion that continue to define the region.

Japanese mountaineers count this peak among the nation's 200 Famous Mountains, drawing dedicated hikers who make the journey regularly. The recognition shapes how climbers across the country view their mountain explorations.

Mountain huts at the location provide shelter and rest stops for climbers during their ascent. Connected trails lead to neighboring peaks, allowing visitors to choose routes based on their fitness level and time available.

The mountain spans across two prefectures, with its territory divided between Hayakawa in Yamanashi and Aoi-ku in Shizuoka. Climbers cross these administrative boundaries while ascending, experiencing a subtle shift in jurisdiction from one side of the ridge to the other.
