Naoetsu Bridge, Transportation bridge in Joetsu, Japan
The Naoetsu Bridge spans across the Sekigawa River, featuring decorative panels that connect different sections of Joetsu City in Niigata Prefecture.
Following the destruction of an earlier crossing by Matsudaira Tadatane, the area remained without a bridge until 1871, when new construction efforts began.
The bridge incorporates design elements from the tale of Anju and Zushiomaru, characters from Mori Ogai's novel Sansho Dayu, with memorial structures nearby.
Visitors can reach the bridge through a 20-minute walk from Naoetsu Station, with multiple temples, shrines, and the Joetsu City Aquarium in close proximity.
The current structure, completed in November 1988, stands as part of Japan's collection of Hundred Famous Bridges, near the site of the historical Ouge no Hashi.
