神応寺

Jinnoji Temple stands in central Yawata with traditional Buddhist architecture, featuring a main hall that houses three medicine Buddha statues. The building shows classical craftsmanship in its wooden structure and roof design typical of Japanese temples.

The temple was founded in 859 and gained prominence when Hideyoshi's wife became a patron. Her support led to continued backing from successive Tokugawa shoguns across generations.

The main hall displays a statue of Toyotomi Hideyoshi in formal court dress, a gift from his son Hideyori that reflects the temple's ties to political power. This statue connects the site to the ruling families of the Edo period.

The temple sits in a residential neighborhood and is easy to reach on foot from nearby transportation. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since footwear must be removed before entering the main hall.

The temple houses a statue of Priest Gyoki, an Important Cultural Property that established the original link to the Hachiman deity. This ancient sculpture is a rare example of religious craftsmanship from earlier periods.
