Shōbō-ji, Buddhist temple in Yawata, Japan
The temple grounds contain multiple structures including a main hall, an octagonal hall, and a Chinese-style gate called Karamon.
Established in 1191 by Tadakuni Takada, a vassal of shogun Yoritomo Minamoto, the temple became the family temple of the Shimizu clan.
Emperor Gonara designated the temple as a place for imperial prayer in 1546, marking its connection to the Japanese royal family.
The temple houses several Important Cultural Properties of Japan, including wooden statues and silk paintings, with some artifacts preserved at Kyoto National Museum.
The Hakkakudo octagonal hall, built between 1213 and 1219, originally stood at Iwashimizu Hachiman-gu Shrine before relocation to this site.
