Fukuoka City Public Library, Municipal library in Seaside Momochi, Japan
Fukuoka City Public Library is a municipal library in the Momochi-hama district of Fukuoka, Japan. It is divided into three specialized sections and has a total capacity of around two million volumes.
The library opened in 1996 in the Seaside Momochi area, built on land reclaimed from Hakata Bay. The whole district was developed after the 1989 Asia Pacific Expo, which gave a new shape to this part of the coastline.
The library has a dedicated film archive section with two screening rooms where movies are regularly shown to the public. This mix of books and cinema draws a broad audience and turns the place into a meeting point for different kinds of visitors.
The library is in Momochi-hama and can be reached on foot from Nishijin or Fujisaki subway stations in about 15 minutes. Buses also stop near Fukuoka Tower, which is close to the building and offers another convenient option.
The building contains a City Archive section that gathers historical documents and records from across the region. This makes the library a useful stop for anyone curious about local history, beyond just borrowing books.
