Fukuoka City Museum, City museum in Momochi-hama, Fukuoka, Japan
Fukuoka City Museum is a city museum in Momochi-hama, Fukuoka, Japan. The building stands near the waterfront and presents permanent exhibitions about regional history on several floors with separate rooms for rotating displays.
The museum opened its doors in October 1990 and houses the Gold Seal, a national treasure from 1784. This seal documents early diplomatic relations between Japan and China during the Han Dynasty.
The permanent collection displays archaeological findings, historical artifacts, and traditional crafts that represent the development of Fukuoka from ancient times to present day.
The museum opens daily except Mondays from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with adult admission at 200 yen. Middle school students and younger visitors enter for free.
The facility maintains digital archives and interactive learning areas where visitors can examine detailed three-dimensional models of archaeological finds from the region. This technology allows people to see objects from angles that would not be possible in traditional display cases.
