福厳寺

Fukugon-ji is a Buddhist temple in Kobe with a distinctive circular reinforced concrete main building. The central hall houses a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha and forms the focal point of the entire complex.

The temple was established and gained importance over the centuries as a place of worship. In 1868, two former subsidiary temples merged with the main site, bringing expanded religious functions.

This temple serves as the 24th station on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage route, welcoming Buddhist pilgrims throughout the year. Visitors can experience the spiritual importance of this major pilgrimage path.

The site is roughly a 10-minute walk from the nearest train station and therefore easy to reach. Visitors will find parking options in the immediate surroundings.

Two former subsidiary temples named Kiun-an and Joboku-an were consolidated with the main complex in the 19th century. This merger significantly expanded the religious role of the site.
