美原大橋, Cable-stayed bridge in Ebetsu, Japan
Mihara Bridge is a cable-stayed crossing spanning the Ishikari River and connecting the shores around Ebetsu. Two tall towers support a network of steel cables that suspend the roadway above the water.
Before the bridge, a ferry service carried people and vehicles across the river to travel between the communities. The bridge later modernized this crossing and made the river passage faster and always available.
The bridge links two communities whose residents have long maintained connections across the river. This crossing shapes how people on both sides go about their daily routines and encounter one another.
The bridge has four traffic lanes for cars and wide walkways on both sides for pedestrians and cyclists. Anyone crossing on foot will find dedicated paths separated from vehicle traffic and can enjoy views of the river.
The bridge generates electricity from solar power while supporting thousands of daily vehicles and pedestrians. This green technology is woven into the structure and makes the crossing a modern, sustainable experience.
