Tambasasayama City Preservation District for Groups of Historic Sasayama Buildings

The preservation district contains numerous wooden structures exhibiting traditional Japanese architectural elements, including merchant houses, granaries, and residential buildings throughout the area.

The district received official designation as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings on December 10, 2004, marking its significance in Japanese heritage conservation.

Local artisans continue to maintain these structures using traditional carpentry methods and materials, preserving techniques that date back to the Edo period.

Visitors can access the district via the JR West Fukuchiyama Line, with guided tours available through the local tourism office located near Sasayama Castle.

The district features Tsumairi-style merchant houses along Kawaramachi Street, characterized by their distinctive entrance arrangements and structural configurations.
