Sekiganji, Buddhist temple in Toyohashi, Japan.
Sekiganji is a Buddhist temple in Toyohashi with traditional Japanese architecture, featuring a mountain gate, main prayer hall, and a dedicated Aizen-do prayer space on its grounds. The buildings are arranged around the property, with stone construction and multiple spaces for worship and meditation.
The temple was founded in 762 at the request of Emperor Seibu. Following a major fire in 1913, the temple was reconstructed and restored to continue its role in the region.
The temple houses Buddhist statues, including an Aizen Myoo figure with 104 smaller deities carved into its crown. This arrangement shows how local worship connects a main deity to many protective spiritual forms that visitors can observe directly.
The temple is located in the Akaiwayama area and provides free parking for visitors. It maintains regular opening hours, making it straightforward to plan a visit at a convenient time.
Behind the temple grounds, a pathway leads to the Akaiwa Observatory at an elevated location. From this vantage point, visitors can see across Toyohashi City and the surrounding landscape.
